ATLANTA’S PREMIERE GARDEN

These designs, for a Restroom and Amphitheater Shelters, are part of a multi-phase capital campaign to renovate significant areas of the Atlanta Botanical Garden, and SDA’s third project for ABG.

Design Challenges:  For the restroom, the design bridges the Children’s Garden and the Trustee Terrace. The restroom building became a fitting backdrop to these environments while not standing out in any way. A playful and practical interior was required for families with children, and features abundant natural light, space and bright colors. The amphitheater shelter was designed to cover the existing seating and provide new storage for programs. The design centered on lightness of structure and natural materials and colors.

The renewed Children’s Garden has all new experiences – (but don’t worry, the beloved frog bog pond and the gnomes were  retained and merely refurbished.) Phase One, which opened in July, includes restrooms, amphitheater, splash pad, build-a-fort, edible gardens and bees. Phase Two includes a frog bog pond and treehouse features.
